Congregation President June Johnsen called the meeting to order at 9:45 a.m. She announced that the purpose of the meeting was to approve borrowing $100,000 from Westamerica Bank to pay for remodeling the church campus. She explained that the Congregation Council had approved obtaining a loan for $50,000, and this loan had been approved by the bank. At its monthly meeting in May 2010, the Council had approved a request to borrow an additional $50,000 for the remodeling. It had been brought to her attention that since the remodeling costs had not been included in the budget that was
approved at the annual Congregation Meeting in January, the congregation should vote on these loans.
June reported that we are receiving $3,000 per month from Flames of Fire for the use of our facilities and that the Council had voted to use the first $2,000 to repay the loan for the remodeling and to put the remaining $1,000 into a capital improvement fund.
Finance Chair Maryanne Jordan reported that she had met with a loan officer at Westamerica Bank and that the bank was in the process of deciding whether to give us the second loan. She reported that Flames of Fire intends to continue to use our facilities for several years. Members expressed appreciation for June’s effort and leadership.
There were some questions about whether we should delay the second loan, and there was a question about whether we were using reliable contractors. Sam Mullin moved that we approve obtaining the second loan, and Diane Metz amended the motion to approve both loans. The motion was seconded and passed.
The meeting was adjourned at 10:15 a.m.
